Here are some ideas for the “Conference Tours”. I have edited what was included in the program of the International Society of Political Psychology Conference held in July, 2006.

DISCOVER A NEW CITY: BARCELONA FROM THE HEIGHTS
JULY 11, 8:30 – 11:25 – COST: $30
It's always amazing to see things from a different point of view, especially when it comes to a city. This tour rediscovers Barcelona from the heights, moving around its terraces, its roofs and other high points which offer a superb view of the city.
This tour begins at the top of the Montjuïc hill, from the terrace of the National Museum of Fine Arts (MNAC) we'll see a unique view of Barcelona and its surroundings, as well as of the classical pavilions built for the 1929 Great Universal Exhibition.
The tour will continue with a visit to the roof of the Cathedral that is in the old Gothic quarter. From there we'll climb to the top of La Pedrera, the famous Modernist house designed by Gaudí. From its magical terrace we'll get a bird's eye view of the original urbanization plan of Barcelona known as the Eixample (“enlargement”). It was designed in the nineteenth century and includes many other Modernist palaces such as the Casa Batlló and Casa de les Punxes.
Our trip ends with a visit to the Parc Güell where nature merges with Gaudí's fantastic architecture and vertiginous views of the city.
BARCELONA 2000 YEARS OF HISTORY
JULY 11, 13:30 – 17:30 – COST: $30
This is a panoramic tour of the main historical and cultural points of the city. First we'll go to the Sea Front and see the architectural changes of the area. From there, a walking tour of the Gothic Quarter offers the opportunity to visit the religious Cathedral square, the civic St. Jaume square, and the royal Rei square. You will learn about the importance of Les Rambles and will be taken to Passeig de Gràcia where some of the most important Modernist façades can be seen, such as Gaudí's La Pedrera and Casa Battló. We will end the trip at the Sagrada Familia to marvel at the symbolism and beauty of its façades.
CODORNIU CELLARS AND SITGES
JULY 13, 9:00 – 18:30 – COST: $75
Barcelona is within a few kilometers of the internationally known wine-making area of the Mediterranean called the Penedès. We'll drive through the vineyards to visit the Codorniu cellars housed in a Modernist building as well as visit the site's newer installations.
After having discovered the secrets of wine-making we'll head on to Sitges, a beautiful Mediterranean fishing village that has become a favorite among international artists for its connection to Modernism and Romanticism. We'll visit Cau Ferrat, the home of modernist painter Santiago Rusiñol, and the Maricel Palace, Charles Deering's old home which now houses an interesting art collection.
During the afternoon we'll have the opportunity to walk around Sitge's old city center, known as “the White Suburb” for its white houses that look out on to the sea.
MONTSERRAT
(POST-CONFERENCE) JULY 16, 8:00 – 18:00 – COST: $ 75
Montserrat is a moutain that is approximately 60 kilometers west of Barcelona. The Benedictine Monastery of Montserrat which was founded in the 11th century is on this mountain that is surrounded by a natural park. The Virgin of Montserrat is the patron saint of Catalonia and is worshiped at this shrine, served for more than 1000 years by the Benedictine community, now numbering some 80 monks. They lead a life of prayer, of working with and welcoming pilgrims, and of making the site a meeting place for prayer and culture.
Besides the monks, the Escalons – the oldest boy's choir in Europe – also live in the monastery. Visitors can attend the choral concert given by them every day. The Museu de Montserrat is a must-see, it has one of the best art collections in Spain.
