Hi!
You seem to have interest to join the User Experience Team, that's great! So please follow the steps below to register to our project and get in contact with us. If you are still uncertain or want to know more about the OpenOffice.org User Experience, then please have a look at our project's main page ux.openoffice.org. There you will find more information about our involvement and our activities.
If you have any problems with joining, then please contact the User Experience Team at ux-discuss (it may take some time for your email to be answered, because it is manually administered if the steps below have not been finished).
Step 1: Register at OpenOffice.org
Join OpenOffice.org by creating an account at OpenOffice.org Register
The User Experience Team works within the the OpenOffice.org project. We use the infrastructure of the overall project and use it's infrastructure, therefore such registration is required. If you already work within the OpenOffice.org community, you may already have registered.
Step 2: Request a User Experience Team Membership
Join the User Experience Team by Request project membership/role
This approval of this request may some time, because the User Experience administrators have to confirm your request manually. In the meantime, you may continue to add some information in the User Experience Wiki (see next steps).
Step 3: Register at the OpenOffice.org Wiki
Create an account at the OpenOffice.org Wiki via Create an account
The OpenOffice.org wiki is also used by the User Experience Team for collaboration within our activities. But we also us it for presenting our team. By the way, similar to step 1, you may already have an account.
Step 4: Present Yourself in the OpenOffice.org Wiki
- Add yourself to the list of User Experience Team members in the wiki at User Experience Community
- Add the string "{{User Experience Community}}" to the top of 'user page' in the wiki
The list of User Experience Team members provides information about how we look, how we communicate and what we do and links to the 'user pages'. The 'user page' is your little space in the wiki, so you may like to provide some information about yourself (the 'user page' is the wiki page with your user name). Adding the given string will add User Experience related information to this page, e.g. you will get the nice UX logo at the upper right.
If you have any questions or if you are unfamiliar with a Wiki, then please go to through the rest of the steps and request help at our mailing list 'ux-discuss'.
Step 5: Subscribe to the Mailing List
Subscribe to our 'discuss@ux.openoffice.org' mailing list at User Experience Mailing Lists
We mainly communicate via the mailing list with the name 'discuss@ux.openoffice.org' (or short 'ux-discuss'). So if we you want to contribute, just subscribe to it. More information can be found on the mailing lists page with the given link.
Step 6: Get In Contact
Get in touch with us by introducing yourself and send a short email to 'ux-discuss'.
Even if you have successfully subscribed to the mailing list, we still don't know about your background, reasons for joining, comments or ideas on OpenOffice.org's future. So please introduce yourself with a short email message at the mailing list 'ux-discuss' you've just subscribed to.
What's next?
Great! It seems that you have gone through the steps successfully. So what are your options now?
- Start by reading or joining some discussions at the 'ux-discuss' mailing list.
