I'm a volunteer translator of open-source software. Since we translate for our communities, we tend to contribute to a variety of projects producing software for our users.

I have recently started translating for OpenOffice, because our community badly needs this software localized and officially released. It is the key to our adoption of free software in general. And free software itself is a basis for empowerment of a third-world population.

If you're involved in i18n (internationalization), you'll probably see me around. We cross project boundaries, and do the best we can where we are needed. At times, I will be unable to contribute, due to a long-term illness, but we all have our limitations, and that's mine. ;)

I really enjoy being useful: this is something you might take for granted somewhat before you become ill, but something you value passionately afterwards.

I've started some work in the wiki, but overall my current priority here is making sure our first supported release occurs without too many hiccoughs. It's all very new to me, so you'll probably see me popping up on mailing lists and paraphrasing my teenage daughter (her favourite expression is "WTF?" I got her a T-shirt from ThinkGeek. :D )

Please feel free to contact me, if you want to find out more about translating, and would like to contribute. If you, or anyone you know, would like to contribute, and finds the idea a bit intimidating or confusing, particularly understanding all the information in English which each project expects us to read and use, please email me, and I'll be happy to help anyone over any bumps in their journey.

Things may seem complex, puzzling, strange and uncomfortable, but we help each other out, and create welcoming and supportive communities.

I look forward to hearing from you, and meeting you here at OOo.
