Please specify how numbers in scientific notation are treated. (and remove this comment then) Regina 22:43, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

How scientific notations are parsed will not change by this enhancement. Rather, the purpose of introducing the "Detect special numbers" option is precisely to disable special number detection, mostly because of user's complaints about Calc's CSV import filter incorrectly converting cell values to dates. So, I will not cover how scientific notations are parsed in this spec, since I really don't know. ;-)

Does that answer your question? --Kohei 00:01, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

The spec is clear now. Although it's a pity that scientific numbers are not detected as "normal" numbers. This requires an additional step in the spreadsheet to convert them back to numbers. But in contrast to the number->date error, this conversion is possible. So it's only inconvenient but no loss of data. Apart from that, the new feature is a good idea and I encourage you to implement it. Regina 08:56, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

RFC 4180 compliant CSV files are currently not imported correctly, the 2DQUOTE escape character is not recognized. I think that the dialog should be expanded to include a heading "Escape character" (it should NOT be included in the "Separated by" section because it is also applicable to "Fixed width" files). The options should at least be a DQUOTE (double quote) and a backslash (as that is the default in many programming languages, for example PHP's fgetcsv function).

"Persistence of dialog's state" - In my case, nothing persists. I'm on windows XP in a work environment, is it possibly my IT setting is preventing the dialog from saving it's state? What specifically could cause this? --Nhengen 27 August 2010
