How to omit a heading style from a table of contents

A user may wish to omit a heading style, say Heading 1, from the list of headings that are entered in a table of contents. Here's how to do that:

  1. Click Insert > Indexes and Tables > Indexes and Tables
  2. Click on the icon with the 3 dots that lies to the right of "Outline"
  3. Select Level 1 and, in Paragraph Style, change "Heading 1" to "(none)"
  4. Click "OK"

This "disconnects" Level 1 from Heading 1. Another approach would be to change Level 1 to Heading 2, Level2 to Heading 3, etc.
