In Writer, as in any Apache OpenOffice component, it is possible to format text in two ways: by direct formatting or by applying styles.
We will discuss styles in the next section. For the moment we will only say that styles are useful to automate complex tasks and help to keep consistency.
But of course, before talking about how to automate tasks we need to talk about what tasks are possible: in this section we will talk about the different options to insert content in a Writer document.
