扩展是用于 OpenOffice.org 中分发代码或数据的文件。这种文件使用"oxt" （曾用.uno.pkg 和 .zip 后缀名），他作为其他数据的一种容器，例如，库文件、JARs、配置数据、类型库文件、Basic 库文件、Basic 对话框等等。任何需要在 OpenOffice.org 种使用的扩展都需要先由扩展管理器安装才能使用。
