Top level category
Hi, Adailton,
First, thanks a lot for all the maintenance work you have been doing; it's good stuff.
You are correct in observing that the Category:MainIndex will remain un-categorized, but such is the fate of the topmost category! It's the same on Wikipedia, where Category:Contents belongs to no category.
The idea here is to prevent category-linkage loops, to avoid confusing the bots. These would normally process categories recursively. If you've done any recursive programming, you can see how a closed loop could lead to infinite recursion.
- Please keep up the good work! --TJ (Talk | Contribs) 14:38, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
- fyi - (list of categories) (edit window bottom displayed, probably in the .CSS heirarchy somewhere) isn't connected to that above link: Category:MainIndex, for some reason. Search engine foibles are a funky thing in mediawiki. Good Luck and thanks for the Welcome! //FrankB 18:09, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
Template HowTos
If you edit Documentation/How_Tos you will see that most of the HowTo entries are gathered automatically by the <DPL> feature, which lists all the pages in a category. However, the Templates HowTos are not automated, and they should be. This means going to each entry, changing the category from doc/howto to doc/howto/templates, then creating that category (and categorizing it in doc/howto). Then add the automatic stuff to use the new category. There are some (at least one) pages in Category:Templates that should be included, too.
If any of this sounds like something you'd like to do, please do. Otherwise, I'll plod along at it. --TJ (Talk | Contribs) 21:30, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
Hurricane Sandy
Hurricane Sandy is passing by my location. I may lose power or internet access. Please watch for spammers in the meantime. --TJ (Talk | Contribs) 09:54, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
Sysop
You are now a sysop. Please delete these idiots. --TJ (Talk | Contribs) 11:25, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
- Good work! We're catching up with them. Thanks for your efforts; please keep it up. --TJ (Talk | Contribs) 13:53, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
Redlinks
Thanks for cleaning up those OldES redlinks. Keith (User:KNMcKenna) may be creating some redlinks in his work on the FAQs. They should go away when he's finished. I didn't want you to worry about them. --TJ (Talk) 13:19, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
Icons and simbols
Hi Adailton, Maybe rename Category:Icons_and_simbols --> Category:Icons_and_symbols ? --Helen (talk) 16:26, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
Category:Files
Hi Adailton, I created two new subcategories in Category:Images: Category:Logo and Design and Category:Splash Screens. Please look --Helen (talk) 04:27, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
I created Category:ODP --Helen (talk) 06:22, 13 February 2013 (UTC) and Category:Screenshots and Dialogs --Helen (talk) 03:33, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

You may want to steal some ideas
Hi again, Seeing your talk, I just thought I'd share a couple of links
- [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Categories en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Categories]
Both Wikimedia Foundation's projects have an extensive category system worked out, albeit with a little bit of differences such as where the category trees start, the second is the media repository site for all the Mediawiki Foundation wiki projects--including even image namespace archives for most of the many images used in all language Wikipedia's world wide, the first has some how-to Wikipedia namespace (i.e. special Editor Help namespace) and the special page of course.
- If you follow the Category trees, you'll see many categories are listed in multiple categories as you descend from the root categories. (I didn't see that on the few links above I sampled) Structured that way, a user can use the categories to efficiently locate related 'articles' or 'media' resources.
