This page contains information related to the OOo Wiki.

What is the Wiki Improvement Effort?

Goal: To make more efficient use of the OOo wiki and to make it so that people working on or interested in OOo gladly go to the wiki to find information they need. There are several reasons why we want to improve the wiki, one of them being that we want to make it easier for developers to get the information that they need to get started on the project. Another reason is to facilitate the use of the wiki for the community members who use it daily, such as documentation writers and readers, etc. As it was unclear exactly what needed to be improved, a survey was developed by User Experience and sent out to the community.

Wiki Usage Survey

The survey was kept short in order to make it quick and easy to fill out in hopes of getting a large number of responses. Only about half of the questions were mandatory. All text boxes where comments could be added were optional.Several questions were conditional and only revealed when a particular answer was given in the previous question.

Survey Questions

The survey included the following questions:

In general, how satisfied are you with the experience of writing something on the OOo wiki?: Very satisfied/Satisfied/Works for me/Dissatisfied/Very dissatisfied

Survey Results

The Wiki Usage Survey was completed by 128 respondents. There are approximately 200 comments.

When asked the question "In general, how satisfied are you with the experience of writing something on the OOo wiki?", 24.22% said they do not write on the wiki. Therefore we have to look at the answers of the 97 respondents who answered that they do write on the wiki.

Of those, approximately half (49 respondents) said "works for me". Most of the other respondents were even more OK with the experience of writing on the wiki, answering that they are satisfied (27) or very satisfied (14). There were only 7 of the 97 who were dissatisfied (4) or very dissatisfied (3).

When asked the question "In general, how satisfied are you with the experience of reading something on the OOo wiki?", 11.72% responded that they are very satisfied, 44.53% said they are satisfied, while 28.13% answered "works for me". That means 108 of the 128 respondents are not complaining. (...much ;-) ---There is always room for improvement!)

14.84% (19 people) said they are dissatisfied. (Only one person answered "very dissatisfied").

Executive Summary: Well over half of the respondents are using the OOo wiki more or less happily.

Measuring Improvement

In order to measure the success of any improvements, the survey can be sent out again after many changes have been made to the OOo wiki. The results of the initial survey can then be compared to the later results. Statistics (page visits) could also be used to check for better results and acceptance of certain wiki pages.
