Redesign issue tracker

Ivan is hosting and maintaining the most up to date design of the new home page: http://www.patentpending.co.nz/openoffice/

Pages to create

(if you want to take on a certain issue, just write your name behind it, or say so on the dev@website mailinglist, discussion should also take place at this list)

  • At the moment only a main page has been created, content still needs to be developed for the other pages, in answer to all 5 action statements. Additionally, some new tabs have been introduced that also need a new landing page. See Content.
  • We need a feed parser for the new 'News' page (there will no longer be news featuring on the main page, e.g. like http://marketing.openoffice.org/planet/

Issues with the new homepage (CSS/HTML)

Please add any HTML/CSS issues you discover with the new homepage to this list.

Internet Explorer 6 Issues

  • The footer does not automatically move to the bottom of the page. This can be fixed easily, but requires hacks - currently everything below the footer's 130px designated space is white.
  • The tabs (Search, Change Language, Log In) have 100% width and display badly (screenshot). This will either require hacks or an alternate JS solution if IE6 support is desired.

Main page

  • Enrich the current proposal with icons:
  • Make the marketing block more flexible (so it can feature longer text as well)
    • The frame flipped so the gull is on the right looks odd to me. I will try some different gull images. -Randy
  • Current wording doesn't mention that OOo is free (Updated - title tag reads "OpenOffice.org - The free, open source productivity suite" and changed the Download action statement sub-text to mention that it's free -Ivan)

Implementation

  • We do not have a staging server, so we need to carefully introduce each element step by step
    • inst.css and tigris.css needs to be cleaned up (at least removal of !important declarations)
    • The new header needs new div blocks which need to be introduced (proposal, make them online soon, as 'display:none' blocks
