 Thank you for pointing at this. A good point!
 Looking at the current F&R dialog:
 - A multi-selection brings "no string" on first dialog call.
 - A selected word gets into the search text field.
 - After that, (on the next dialog call), a multi-string selection
   brings "no string", so the last search string is shown.

 So the "dynamic" behavior as well as the depency on current selection
 needs specification here.

 Contents of selection: What if...
 - An object (or text within an object) is selected (Graphic, OLE
   object, Writer text frame, Draw text box)

 What about
 A multi-selection
 Nothing selected
 "A lot of text" selected

 Plus
 First-time or second time use.
 What if search bar is closed and reopened (flush memory or keep it).

 Sorry, but digging into such details is QAing a spec. :-)

 I checked the "A lot of text selected" thing in the old dialog.
 When the current selection of text goes beyond a paragraph break, it is
 regarded a multi-selection => no string passed on to text field 
 => the old search string stays.
 Same when the text is too long. A paragraph in Writer is limited to
 65535 characters. This is also the limit for a long string to be passed
 to the F&R dialog. If the selection is longer than 64k characters,
 nothing goes to the search text field.

 rename the file name and Close the dialog.
 => On WinXP: There is a hint "Can't rename the file, and the file is being used by
    another user or another application";
    On Fedora: Can rename the file.
 On WinXP, file properties dialog opens with two special tabs - "Summary" and "document
 statistics", these two tabs information have something with OOo application, am I right?
 If so, I can understand the above mentioned hint.
 I don't know there is an issue or not.

 Overruling the extension in the physical file name is a feature.
 This means that the "file type detection" works well in this case.

 A little background:
 You can not expect the operating system to look INTO the files,
 therefore the icon shown with this file on a Windows machines will
 blindly follow the "wrong" extension that you set.
 Just as blindly, a double-click in Windows Explorer will call the
 "wrong" application registered for that three-letter-extension (i.e. OOo
 Writer for all .ods, and OOo Calc for all .odc, OOo Impress for all .odp
 and so on)
 
 When you rename the .odt file to ".doc" and double-click the file in
 Windows Explorer, Word will refuse to open it and tell that the file is
 corrupt. (Given the fact that MS Office file types are registered for MS
 Office). This is not true, but without the odf plugin installed, Word
 can not tell better and "propose a data loss" :-)
 
 What you did is "mix file extensions within the OOo applications". Then
 the "initially called application (in this case Impress) must look into
 the file and should detect the correct application to use. No matter if
 opened from the office or "passed on by the operating system"
 (double-click in explorer).
 
 So the file type detection for Writer files "when triggered by impress"
 does not work. By default, all applications add the correct file
 extension. Thus I would consider this a P4 issue because it is a
 scenario that requires a "misuse" when (or after) saving a file".
 
 Feel free to do a throughout test by doing an "all wrong extension
 matrix" in the way you did it for a Writer file. Like that, you can gain
 an overview if "Impress -> Writer" is the only issue in this area.
 This may help to fix all at once (no guarantee as I am not into that
 code :-)

 No. The bug is in Impress because the extension odp triggers the Impress
 detection. If it accepts the file, OOo creates an Impress document from
 it. Only if Impress denies to accept the file (as Calc does obviously),
 Writer comes into play.

 On Windows OOo uses the default Simple MAPI client. The Simple MAPI
 client is not necessarily the same as the default client for "mailto:"
 URLs, so it's possible that a Windows mail client supports the latter
 but not the former. I don't know FoxMail, but maybe your problem is that
 it doesn't support (Simple) MAPI or that it must be configured to do so.
 Thunderbird and Outlook Express do support that protocol if they are
 configured to be the default mail client.

 Logical values and dates are only formatted numbers and therefor shown
 in blue -> error in help

 This is correct. Value highlighting overrules a normal color formatting
 (e.g if you format a numbercell with a red font the number will be shown
 in blue if value highlighting is enabled). Due to useability reasons the
 value highlighting will be disabled if the document is closed or the
 view is changed (e.g print preview). This was made because often users
 complained because they thought that they have lost their formatting
 because they didn't know that value highlighting was enabled.

• Group two or more notes

Amy2008:

 If group two or more notes, and try to select the grouped note, should the grouped

 No, it is not "reasonable".

 A multi-selection including notes is prevented on purpose.
 This is the same as in MS Excel.

 If you group notes and schrink/enlarge them, they would lose their
 connection to "their" cell.

 If you insert a "callout" into a calc document, group it with i.e. a
 rectangle and then toy with the size of the group selection rectangle,
 you can see the effect.

 Internally, Notes are also " a special type of callouts". So to have
 something you can select, group and squeeze, use callouts instead.

 As far as what you mentioned, I understand, but I can't totally agree with what you said.
 I think Callouts is different from Notes.
 Firstly, if  insert Callouts, whatever you select Callouts firstly or select Rectangle

 only select Notes firstly, then CTRL +A, you can select these two kinds of objects.

 Thank you for insisting, I was partly wrong. This is what I did:
  - Insert a note with some text
  - Insert a callout
  - Insert a rectangle
  - Call navigator <F5>
 -> See that the note is listed with its content.
  - Close navigator <F5>
  - Select the note
  - Ctrl + A
 -> Now I see: Like this, all objects get selected.
  - Via context: Group - Group
 -> Now all three objects are grouped
  - Save the file
  - Reload the file
  - Call navigator <F5>
 -> Because the note is a "sub element" of the group now, the note is NOT
 listed in Navigator anymore.
 -> Select the group and ungroup it
 -> The Note changed to a "callout" and is not listed in navigator anymore.

 Though this is not easy visible for the user, the document structure ("A
 note is a note and treated as such" is gone and some notes-related
 features (print them, show them etc) do not work anymore.
 So the ability to make a multi-selection like this (Select note, then
 ctrl-A) should be prevented and is a defect.
 It gives the user the ability to ruin the document structure without
 noticing it at first.

 Several days before, I have asked for help from Stefan about "movie and sound"
 or drawing object which can be set as background  and selected via "Ctrl+click

 But now, I have another problem, How to select drawing or "movie and sound"

 work. I have checked issue 89920, there is no hint about how to do it in

 About AutoFilter,  in sheet1, if I do autofilter and select some type result, then do autofilter in 
 sheet2, then find that autofilter in sheet1 disappears.

 It is possible to add several autofilters, but each autofilter needs its own named datarange. The 
 easiest way to create it is to select the range and then use the Data - Define Range dialog and give 
 the range a name.The technical background is that if the range for the autofilter has no 
 name it will get an internal one automatically. If you create a second autofilter the first one will 
 be overwritten.

• Rename one protected sheet

Amy2008:

 Can users rename a sheet which has been protected?  In Help file, it says "To protect the cells from

 The term soft-formatting is used when you work with styles in contrary to
 hard-formatting where you just select eg. the "bold"-icon from the toolbar for
 a piece text.

 For example if in writer the users selects a portion of text with the mouse and
 than use the toolbar icon for making that text bold and than selects a font 
 from the font listbox in the toolbar thats hard formatting.

 On the other hand the user may use the "Styles and Formatting" Icon in the
 toolbar to define a Style named "MyFancyBoldStyle" and use that to format some
 paragraph. That´s soft-formatting.
 Soft-formatting is available in writer, calc, draw and impresss.
 The same concept to what I just said about paragraphs in writer does apply to
 graphical elements in draw or impress or on cells in calc.

 Because notepad replaces tabs with a pre-determined number (usually 5) of spaces. It (notepad) is a
 very simple text editor, and it's files are plain ASCII. It (notepad) does not store tabs as tabs.
 If you tried doing the same using commas or semi-colons as delimiters, it will probably work properly
 (Not really sure, as I don't use Windows). Possible simply using a single space between text should   
 work OK as well (the space becomes the delimiter)

 select the input cell again & copy input line from formula bar, paste into new cell

 Another:
 Input some characters into the formula bar, Ctrl + Enter to make a manual line break for the cell,  
 but it doesn't work. Namely, 
 can't input manual line break into the formula. 
 In my opinion, inputting some special charaters into the formula bar is necessary.

 But I'm not in product planning anyway, I cannot tell other people to work on a fix or something.

 user-experience list and/or the spreadsheet list to get a more detailed answer on whether the fix
 will be accepted and if not, why not.
 Wontfix in general only means that the person the issue is assigned to will not do anything regarding
 that issue, but if there is a patch the fix will not be rejected (there are exceptions however, so 
 better check with the corresponding sub-project before spending unnecessary work)

• What's the analysis plug-in?

 Q1:It refreshes all settings that can be stored at a database range: 
 - Sorting settings 
 - Filter settings (standard filter, auto filter, special filter) 
 - Subtotal settings 
 - External database settings ("Refresh Range" re-imports data from an external database). 
 The easiest way to create a DB range linked to a database: Open "View -> Data Sources" (or press F4),
 in the treelist open Bibliography->Tables, drag&drop the table "biblio" into the sheet. Now you have
 a new DB range "Import1". 
 Q2:This option is of interest if the DB range is linked to an external database. If checked,
 and someone adds or deletes records in the database, and then refreshes the Calc DB range, Calc will
 move cells *below* the DB range up or down. if someone adds or deletes columns in the database, Calc
 will move cells *right of* the DB range to the left or right. 
 If not checked, the cells below/right of the DB range do not move and may be overwritten if the 
 external database grows. 
 Q3:Related to external databases only: If checked and the DB range is refreshed, the formatting
 of the header row will not change, and the formatting of the first data row will be copied to all
 other data rows. To try out: set some formatting to some cells in the first and second row of the DB
 range, then refresh it. 
 Q4:Also only for external databases. If checked, the imported data is not saved with the Calc
 document, but just the link to the database. If not checked, the imported data is saved and will 
 still be available, if the external database is not present (anymore). But the file size may grow
 especially if you link to a very big database.
 Q5:Source: Shows the link to the current external database. 
 Operations: Shows which operations have been defined for this DB range and will be executed when you
 select "Data -> Refresh Range". For example sorting, filtering, or subtotals. 

• limit to the size of paste content in Spreadsheet

 There are the steps as follows:

 this is not a bug.
 Problem is, that both documents use "Default" page style. One with
 Headers/Footers, one without. We think, it is better NOT to overwrite
 the page style in the document where one inserts the other one.
 If someone really wants to overwrite, use the "Load styles" feature from
 "Styles and formatting" window.

 Thank you for your answer in detail, I totally understand it.
 Actually, if I want to import a file with text content and some page styles, 
 should do two operations, one is Insert-File to import other documents' content,
 another is using 'Load styles'  feature from  "Styles and formatting" box to import

 that's right, you will have to perform two actions if you want to
 oververwrite with the styles from the document "to be inserted".
 Be aware to activate the "overwrite" chackbox in the "Load styles" dialog.

 values alter. But if enter characters like "test" or enter nothing in the cell, 
 then scroll the middle key of the mouse, “1.#NAN” shows.

 NAN means 'Not a Number', which is a normal requirement as a value in these
 cells. Instead of deleting a value, if you replace it with 0 then scrolling
 works. A blank value cannot be calculated but 0 can. Also, 'Test' is not
 accepted for the same reason that it is not a number.

• Can't alter "movie and sound" object

 I expect there is a table pasted at the caret position. But there is only a something like a frame there. And type
 in the table, nothing happened in the "frame".

 I tried this with an OOo 2.3 on Ubuntu Linux. I can confirm your observation. No problem while I use English localization.
 If I switch to Chinese, the same office installation will reproduce the described behavior. The case seems to be quite
 clear, the writer tables have localized (Chinese is this case) names; press 'F5' to verify in the OOo navigator. When
 pasting the table as DDE link it is bound to fail, because DDE is only specified to be used with ASCII encodings. Great
 finding.

 I tested in a English version since this function can't achieve in Chinese localized table name.
 1. Create a new writer document;
 2. Insert a table in it;
 3. Select the table;

 I think, if it works as normal,  it would be a nested table. if the level of the nesting is not limited,

 the original text.

 I guess linking a table to a cell of itself would end up in a loop of
 events, probably ending in an OOo crash. Inserting the DDE link would
 modify the source table. The modification would be forwarded to the
 nested link. The nested table will be modified, which would also be an
 modification of the source table. Consequently, creating a DDE link
 within the source doesn't make any sense at all.

 fixed in the OOO300 codeline (OOO3.0) but due to a merge conflict the
 cws greenstate30 was not integrated in the current codeline (DEV300). We

 a debug version has some extra code for development which point to 
 problems during runtime. The main difference for testing such a debug 
 version is that there are error- and warning messageboxes. These 
 messageboxes can be handled by testtool but will change the timing of 
 some tests. Therefor we differentiate between "Product" and 
 "DebudVersion" in some cases. Normally we only test "Product" versions 
 with the testtool.

• [Automation]Timing problem when run scripts

zhulihua:

 I'm running required scripts against OOo_m9 these days. I've found some timing issues, 
 if I add a sleep instrction at proper position, the result will be Ok, or there will 
 be some errors or warnings in the result. I'll attach a resultfile, w_updt.res. In this
 file, tEditFields, tInsertNote, tFormatWrapArea and tFormatPositionAndSizeLegend often 
 have this timing issue. Not every testcase metioned will occur the problem every time, 
 but often.
 
 the same problem often come out in some other scripts, such as EuroConverter.
 
 I consulted Helge about this. He told me this never happened in Sun. And he took time
 to run some testcases, no error happened.
 I ran the testcases against both English version and Chinese version under both English
 locale and Chinese locale of OS. The problem happened in all conditions. 
 Did you have this kind of problem when you ran testcases?

 1. Sorry I told you the wrong script name. It's ma_updt.bas, not w_updt.bas
 2. The error occurs after you deleted the userprofile(or new installed).

 Reason:
 When you first run the testcase after delete the userprofile, at "instruction No.1", 
 Navigator of MasterDoc came out. "NavigatorGlobalDoc" are Kontexted, and Liste is visible.
 So the navigator are switched to normal navigator. "Instruction No.3" are run, so this
 normal navigator get Kontexted. when the script goes to the "Instruction No.4", because
 there is NO Liste in this navigator, so error occured.
 
 When you run the testcase again, at "Instruction No.1", normal navigator will come up, 
 because we switched to normal navigator last time. But this instruction Kontext MasterDoc 
 navigator (NavigatorGlobalDoc), So Liste is not visible. So "Instruction No.3" will not run.
 And so, MasterDoc navigator is still Kontexted. So at "Instruction No.4", Liste is exist but
 not visible, so the "switch button" will not be clicked. But this time the result will be OK. 
 
 So, in NavigatorGlobalDoc, there is Liste. And in NavigatorWriter, there is Auswahlliste.
 But we found, in NavigatorGlobalDoc, there is Auswahlliste too. That why there is no Error with
 Auswahlliste at "Instruction No.6", Although "Instruction No.5" is not run when we run the testcase again.

but I have confirmed a problem. 
For example, there are three paragraphes,  the first one is Heading1 style,
the second one is Heading2 style, the third one is Heading3 style.
If edit Heading2 and set Indent:before text as a number, e.g. 2cm, OK.
Then in numbering list, set cursor before the first Heading paragraph, 
"Tab" used in the first paragraph of numbering list to change the indent of 
the list, but now we can find the second paragraph doesn't move.

So now I don't know if Heading2 style has been changed by users,  the second 
paragraph doesn't move to meet user's need. If not, I think it is a bug.

 OK, let's try some trouble shooting. Do you always delete or rename the
 'OpenOffice.org' directory from the user profile before a new OOo
 installation? I haven't been using Windows for a long time. The path
 must be something like 'c:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
 Data\OpenOffice.org'. This folder can contain disturbing configurations
 from old installations. when testing OOo, it should always be removed
 before any installation of a new version. Please rename or delete this
 folder and check if the bug still occurs.

 Another cause could be, that the XP versions you are using are somehow
 different from Regina and Michael. Do you have Chinese features
 installed on your English WinXP? Maybe you have different patches installed.

 Last but not least several settings in the Tools::Options dialog can be
 the source, mostly that one in the sections 'OpenOffice.org
 Impress::General', 'OpenOffice.org Impress::View' and 'OpenOffice.org::View'.

 issue 96644 indeed was part of sw301bf04. Maybe you can't find it in SVN
 CWS document, becaue the CWS is already integrated in OO 3.0.1.
 sw31bf04 will only contain tasks with target OO 3.1 and is still open
 and will reach QA soon (so is not integrated in any product yet).
