Name

The name of this organization shall be the International OpenOffice.org Users Group (herein referred to as the IOU Group).

Statement of Purpose

The purpose of this organization shall be to:

  1. Promote the use and understanding of OpenOffice.org,
  2. Educate members about the uses and creative application of Openoffice.org,
  3. Challenge the philosophical assumptions of Proprietary software distribution models and other sorts of docial Darwinism,
  4. Facilitate discussion, debate, and dialogue over these issues in a warm, friendly, and open atmosphere where individuals feel free to speak their personal views.

Affiliation

The IOU Group is not an affiliate of any corporation or corporate interest. There are no corporate members of the organization, though some individuals may be members of both corporate structures and of the IOU Group.

  1. The IOU Group shall undergo an annual membership evaluation at the end of each year to determine the extent to which the activities of the IOU Group during the past year have or have not upheld the mission statement and the statement of purpose of the IOU Group.

Membership

  1. Any registered individual of or above the age of 13 may officially join the organization, although anyone may attend meetings and events hosted by the organization.
  2. Registered Individuals are those who have duly registered at the site and who have agreed to abide by the site usage document
  3. Only registered individuals may hold office and vote in elections for the organization's officers.
  4. Only the officers shall spend the organization's funds.

Events, meetings, and promotion of views

  1. The IOU Group Officers shall meet no less than once per month.
  2. The IOU Group shall host web sites, debates, speakers, and discussion meetings according to the statement of purpose.
  3. When the IOU Group organization promotes itself or its views to the world, it shall abide by local laws regarding such promotion.

Officers

  1. The organization shall have 3 officers:
    1. President of the IOU Group
      1. Shall be the official spokesperson for the organization on issues related to the porpose of the group,
      2. Shall publicly adhere to and abide by the statement of purpose of the organization.
    2. The Director of IT
      1. Shall be the official spokesperson for the organization on issues related to IT,
      2. Shall publicly adhere to and abide by the statement of purpose of the organization.
    3. Director of Publicity.
      1. Shall coordinate and facilitate the publicity of all events and meetings of the organization.
      2. Shall abide by all local regulations when promoting the organization or its views.
      3. Shall publicly adhere to and abide by the statement of purpose of the organization.
  2. Failure of any officer to uphold the duties of their office are grounds for removal from office.
  3. An officer may be removed from office by a 2/3 vote of the registered members of the organization.

Criteria for holding office

  1. All individuals holding office must be registered members and be elected by a majority vote of the registered members of the organization voting at the elections meeting or online.
  2. The elections meeting shall take place in September of each year.
  3. In the case of a resignation of an officer from office, a special elections meeting may be held to fill the office until the next September elections meeting.
  4. All officers hold their position until the May elections meeting.
  5. There are no limitations on the number of terms of office an individual may hold.
