I used to be a technical author up until 2003 when I had to take a career break to care for a loved one. I am now here to update my skills so I can get back in the job market. I have chosen to use and edit the Wiki, particularly the FAQs and How To pages to start with. I also get involved with updating the pdf documents and have done work on the Getting Started Guides, Chapter 7 of the Calc Guide and I am helping out with the Base tutorials. I have also recently been in discussion to update some of the AVI/SWF tutorials.

I am new to OpenOffice but have learned the product quickly. My previous technical knowledge included banking and telecoms software, retail software; bespoke rental & international removal system software and giving training workshops in Microsoft Office to a variety of users, mainly in the MS Outlook, MS Word and Powerpoint programs.

My future plans include documenting to API level and I've already done a clean up and grammar check on the Calc/API programming page and I'm also interested in the following:

  • Making documentation interact more with social media
  • Learning more about Wikis
  • Creating tutorials and eLearning.

If you wish to contact me, you can email me at: Claire Wood. For anyone who is interested, I am also on Twitter to keep up with information about technical communication and there is a list for #openoffice too. Feel free to join in the conversations!
