Username alignment for Extension website

Currently there exists various login locations with user names that have no connection to each other. For the benefit of using just one name for three sites some historical development of the sites have to be aligned. I can not influence the OOo main site, but I can make it comfortable on the extension and template website.

Upcoming changes to the user login behavior on extension website

Short abstract:

For the benefit of a single sign on login on template and extension website (and later on the general openoffice.org site) some preparation will take place and actions need to be taken by some users.

This action is most important for users who contributed content, commented and voted on each site.

For this to work, every account needs to be mapped to the openoffice.org main site login name, since this is the only common name that can be exchanged across the sites and is unique.

Longer details for the curious:

Lets see which login methods are currently in use: There exists 3 login locations:

O) OpenOffice.org main site: http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/Login

Either use a username or your email
You have to register to get an account here
You get an email address with your account like: username@openoffice.org

T) Template site: http://templates.services.openoffice.org/en/user/login

   Use your username from O)
No need to register, just login.
If logged in for the first time, a local account is generated
automatically for some local bookkeeping related to this site.

E) Extension site: http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/en/user/login

You have to register here to get an account.
Login is possible with the local username.
There is no connection to your account from O)
This is for historical reasons, because in the beginning of the site
the external authentication service from O) did not exist.

The long term goal is to just login on the OpenOffice.org main site and you will be automatic logged in on the other sites. For this to work a common unique username needs to get established. This will be the username from O). So what changes need to be made now on E) for this?

OpenOffice.org extension repository website change: Action required: %NAME%

Hello,

You are receiving this email because you have an account on the https://extensions.openoffice.org website, and changes will occur on the site beginning on November 1st that will require action on your part.

Phase 1 of the website changes is that an existing OpenOffice.org main site user account is needed to log in to this site.

Phase 1 will occur on Monday, November 1.

After November 1, you will need to provide your OpenOffice.org e-mail. Please go to http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/en/user?destination=user/%USERID%/edit and change your e-mail address to your OpenOffice.org main site e-mail, like: username@OpenOffice.org, then click 'submit'.

You will then get an activation e-mail with a link to your new e-mail, which you have to click in order to finish and verify the e-mail change. An e-mail without that link is send to your former e-mail just for information.

If you do not have an account, please go to the OpenOffice.org website to create: http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/Join After that come back to the extension website and change your e-mail there.

If you do not provide your OpenOffice.org e-mail within three months of the phase 1 date (by February 1, 2011), your account will be inactivated. Reminders will be sent during the three-month period.

Please take into account that your passwords on the main site and the extensions website might be different. That will be changed in phase 2:

Phase 2 will start after phase 1, where you will get an additional mail about your account at the OpenOffice.org extension repository website telling you your username and to use your main site password.

Thank you.
