Just exactly WHERE is the Insert function?

I am trying to Insert > Object > Formula in a blank math document, per the wiki instructions, to no avail.

My end goal is to be able to select what I see after entering the formula, so that I may copy and paste it to other documents.

As it is, if I try to copy and paste, I can only get the language used to enter the formula, not what you see above the entry box.

Insert > Object > Formula is explicitly for OPENING the Math editor from the parent document. The Math editor is designed to be called from within other documents.

If you want to create a formula and use it in multiple documents, create your formula, save it, and then insert the saved file into your documents. You can also use the Formula converter extension and convert your formula to a PNG and insert the image wherever you need that common formula. --ccornell 13:21, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

You're right, there's not much documented on this right now - all docs assume you're in the parent document, and are creating Math objects on-the-fly. There are a few tricks around Math... like, open a Writer document, type fn and press F3 and Writer will insert a table with a Math object. So in the case someone wants to insert the same Math object over and over, they could create their own Autotext. Otherwise, as far as I know, if you're editing direct in the Math component, you can only save the Math object, and then import the file into your document as needed. --ccornell 12:52, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
