A digital audio editor allows you to manipulate the audio. You can use it to record the audio or to edit audio recorded with other applications (removing noise, etc.). When creating screencast the use of the audio editor can be combined with other applications such as screen capture or video editing tools.

There is a wide offer of audio editors, we recommend Audacity, a very good open source application that runs on all platforms. If you need more information, you can check the manual.
