Policy on linking to mirrors and premature release announcements

This policy is a proposed draft.

Please do not make announcements about the final release of OpenOffice.org until it is announced through the http://www.OpenOffice.org home page or through the announce@openoffice.org mailing list. From public web sites do not link directly to individual mirrors: please instead direct visitors to <http://download.openoffice.org> or <http://www.OpenOffice.org> where the latest version is always listed. Your cooperation will benefit us and our users by:

  • Using the mirror system to distribute bandwidth capacity
  • Fighting linkrot
  • Encouraging a positive download experience using the download wizard

Items not listed on download wizard

Of interest to only a small number of people, a few files may never be listed on the download wizard. When linking to these files from public web sites, link to the mirrors list <http://distribution.openoffice.org/mirrors/> with instructions on how to find the file.
