We know that many students are looking out for good coding opportunities in the summer, so the OpenOffice.org project is proud to announce the following programme.

Join the "OpenOffice.org Summer 2010 Internship"

  • The "OpenOffice.org Summer 2010 Internship" will start from May 31 and will finish on October 31.
  • It is designed to help students with their first (or second...) step in OpenOffice.org software development
  • Participants gain valuable skills, a useful cash bounty (see below) - and millions of OpenOffice.org users get the great new features which participants have developed!

This internship programme follows on from the successful bug-bounty programmes and others that the project has organized in the past.

General discussion and questions should take place on the internship@openoffice.org mailing list. You can easy subscribe to this list by sending an empty email to internship-subscribe@openoffice.org (archive). If you have questions you can always email one of the members of the Supervisory Team, or meet them on IRC for a chat.

How to apply

  • If you haven't yet decided, make up your mind about what you want to do in OpenOffice.org
    • If you would like to have contact with a developer about possible projects, you could contact them on IRC for a chat or email one of the members of the Supervisory Team (see below).
  • After this initial step please submit the application form under OpenOffice.org Internship 2010 application form
  • You will be contacted afterwards and depending on the selection you will get assigned a mentor and you will get further information.
  • Final selection process
    • the mentor will ask you to make an OOo build on the platform of your choice (or on the platform necessary for the project you select), following the build instructions in our wiki.
    • the mentor can ask for further preparations that might help to learn if you are a capable developer for the project. This could be a simple task involving coding, rebuilding and providing an installation set.
    • especially if more than one applicant applies for the same project the mentor will ask further questions ...
    • Once the mentor is fine with your application, it will be added here.
  • The acceptance of proposals starts May 31, it stops at June 30 at latest. The seven best are chosen at July 1st, or so much earlier as the Supervisory Team thinks is appropriate.
  • Note: available places are limited this year, so if you are interested, find out more now! (Of course joining and helping the project is appreciated any time, but the programme only lasts a few months.)
