We are expecting, that a significant number of attendees is planning to visit Beijing and China for a longer term around the OOoCon. Unfortunately, there is no multi-purpose visa available for such a combined trip with business and touristic purpose. In this case we are recommending to apply for a tourist visa and just 'drop in' at the OOoCon. We have been talking to local authorities in Beijing and they stated, this solution is perfectly OK for them. Nevertheless, they also emphasized, that issuing or refusing visa is solely a claim of the appropriate embassy or consulate; they may have a different point of view or not. For a trip to several locations in China a hotel booking for each place planed visiting should be issued with the visa application.
 +
For those, who only want to visit the OooCon, we recommend to get a business visa. We will contact anyone, who completed the [http://marketing.openoffice.org/ooocon2008/travel.html#registration OOoCon 2008 registration] and offer help for the visa process!

 +
To our knowledge, visa applications cannot be filed earlier than 50 days before the entry in China. We would kindly like to ask you, to apply for your visa right after this period begins. We are not expecting to many problems with the visa offices. However, the earlier you apply, the more time we will have to solve any problem.

There are no mandatory vaccinations for visiting Beijing. However, tetanus, diphtheria and hepatitis A+B are strongly recommended. People who may want to visit southern parts of China should consult an institute for tropical medicine.

The Chinese Embassy in The Hague accepts all visa applications within the Netherlands. The address is: Willem Lodewijklaan 10, 2517 JT, The Hague. There is no other Chinese diplomatic representative in other cities of the Netherlands that can accept Chinese visa applications. If you are currently staying in other countries that have diplomatic relations with China, you may always apply to the Chinese Embassy or Consulate Generals in that country. For the contact information about other Chinese Embassies or Consulate Generals, please click here.
 +
 +
2. When should I apply for the visa and how long does it take to get one?
 +
 +
The suggested applying time is one or two months before your visit to China. The visa procedure usually takes 4 working days, and for the urgent visa service, it could be done within two to three working days. There is no same-day service available.  Concerning a certain special visa applications that need to be referred back to Mainland China or Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the visa process could take two weeks to two months.
 +
 +
3.Hong long is the visa normally valid?
 +
 +
Single-entry visa is normally valid for 3 months from the date of issuance, double-entry visa could be valid for 3 or 6 months.
 +
 +
4.Hong long can I stay in China?
 +
 +
For tourist and business visa, the normal duration of stay is 30 days, and the maximum stay is 90 days.  If you are already in China and want to stay longer than the visa permits, it is possible to apply to the local Public Security Bureau for the extension of your visa if you have sound reasons to stay longer.
 +
 +
5. How can I apply for the visa?
 +
 +
Visa application by mail or post is not acceptable, and it cannot be sent back by post, neither. The applicant should come to the embassy by himself or herself, or send someone else to apply and pick up the visa. No authorization letter in this case is required.
 +
 +
6. What kind of documents should be prepared for the visa application?
 +
 +
For all kinds of visa applications, the original passport, one recent photo and the visa application form (could be downloaded from internet or obtained at the embassy) should be presented. For requirements on specific visa application, please click here.
 +
 +
7. What are the opening hours of the embassy?
 +
 +
The embassy is open for visa application from 9.00 to 12.00 in the morning, Monday to Friday (except holidays). It is strongly suggested that the applicant or the person who picks up the visa try to come to the embassy as early as possible (e.g. between 9.00 and 10.00) to avoid the rush hour at the embassy when there are a lot of people and it will take much longer to wait for one's turn.
 +
 +
8. How much is the visa fee?
 +
 +
The Chinese visa fee defers from the number of entries.
 +
 +
9. If I still have questions about visa, how can I contact the embassy?
 +
 +
You may call 070-3065090 (automatic) or 3065091 (manual, available from 14:30 to 16:30, Monday to Friday except holidays), send fax to 070-3065085 or email to consular@chinaembassy.nl
