OOo Logo License

To avoid abuse the OpenOffice.org logo (and the officially used icons) is not licensed under an open license. Licensing it under LGPL it could be modified or abused for dishonorable purposes (like a virus contaminated OOo).

  • If you want to use the logo outside the Community (for CDs, distributions or your own marketing stuff or homepage) you'll have to send a mail to [[1]] asking for allowance to use the logo for your specific purpose. After a few days you will get (probably) a positive answer - you will be able to use the logo but not to change it. And - if you want to use the logo inside open licensed stuff - please mention in your license text the special logo license. Perhaps you may add a link to the logo gallery at [[2]].
  • For marketing and merchandising reasons inside the Community as well as for documentations and the OOo homepage every registered member of OpenOffice.org can use the unchanged logos without asking for special allowance.
But please remember to drop a line about the logo license in your own license text ...
  • If you want to update the logo or to provide a new one, please subscribe to the art project mailing list art@marketing.openoffice.org. Changes to the official logo can only be approved by the Community Council, if you did sign JCA first.

Please don't be discouraged by all this legal stuff - we don't like it either...
