Hitek School Group NOV started their individual internship project Music Database on May 25th, 2009.

The group consists of the following members:


1 week (May 25 - 31, 2009)

During this week we:
1. Familiarized ourselves with OOo database, including: "Getting starting with Base", "Beginners - Example Database - Base Tutorial"; books: "Getting Started with OpenOffice.org 3", "Begining OpenOffice 3 (From Novice to Professional)", "OpenOffice.org for Dummies", "OpenOffice.org Macros Explained", "A Conceptual Guide to OpenOffice.org 3"
2. Learned about competitive products on the market
3. Discussed some ideas regarding Music Database (concept, design: tables, relations)
4. Created draft set of tables for Music Database on the bases of OOo database


2 week (June 1 - 7, 2009)

During this week we:
1. Started to create draft variant of GUI (View) for the Music Database,
2. Started to create plan and template for the specification,
3. Optimized and tuned draft set of the tables and partly realized relationships between the ones,
4. Discussed some ideas regarding functionality of the Music Database


3 week (June 8 - 15, 2009)

During this week we:
1. Continued to create GUI for the Music Database,
2. Continued to realize relationships between the tables,
3. Continued to define the functionality of the Music Database


4 week (June 15 - 21, 2009)

During this week we:
1. Clarified the functionality of the Music Database and adjust the specification
2. Optimized the structure and content of tables of the Music Database in accordance with the specification
3. Improved GUI for the Music Database in accordance with the specification
4. Continued to learn database design theory

The 1st Month Resume.

May 25 - June 25, 2009

During this month we accomplished several tasks:

1. Familiarized ourselves with database design theory.

2. Learned the SQL queries creation basics

3. Learned the principles of creating and maintaining database systems in OpenOffice.org Base

4. Familiarized ourselves with Macro Programming in OpenOffice.org

5. Learned about competitive products on the market

8. Defined the Music Database functionality

9. Created a template for the Music Database specification

10. Created a draft structure of the Music Database (the tables and relationships between the ones)

11. Created a draft variant of the GUI for the data manipulating in the Music Database


Results of our month activities are:

  • Knowledge of relational database design theory
  • Skills of using OpenOffice.org Base for creating RDBMS
  • The Music Database internal design
  • The Music Database GUI (first edition)
  • The Music Database specification template


6 week (June 27 - July 4, 2009)

During this week we:
1. Learnt SQL for retrieving information from the Music Database
2. Continued to tune the structure of the Music Database
3. Continued to adjust GUI for the Music Database
4. Continued to familiarized ourselves with programming in OpenOffice.org envinronment.


7 week (July 5 - July 11, 2009)

During this week we:
1. Start to fill the Music Database with the real information
2. Add some new functionalities to the Music Database
3. Adjust GUI in accordance with just added functionalities
4. Start to create extra forms for presenting requested information


8 week (July 12 - July 18, 2009)

During this week we:
1. Continued to fill the Music Database with the real information
2. Continued to investigate using and tried to use macros to improve functionality of the Music Database
3. Coninued to improve GUI of the Music Database
