Java is installed, but why isn't it recognized?

Are you sure that you have the right version of Java installed? Please check the release notes for the version of OpenOffice.org you have installed.

The Java system version that is pre-installed on a new computer or that comes with the distribution of an operating system may or may not work with OOo. To be sure, we recommend to download the current version of the Java Runtime Environment from http://www.java.com.

After installation of OpenOffice.org, if Java is still not recognized, click Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org > Java. The OpenOffice.org Java window will open. It takes some time for the software to populate the big list box. Be patient. In the box under "Java is already installed", ensure that the right version of Java has an activated radio button. Java will now be recognized by OpenOffice.org. You may have to repeat this step when you update Java Runtime Environment.
