In Apache OpenOffice, you can send the current document as an email attachment.

On the Solaris and Linux platforms, the email client must support the attachment of a document to an email message through a command at the command line. In Windows, the email client must support the Messaging Application Program Interface (MAPI).

Apache OpenOffice works with most common email clients, including but not limited to:

  • Mozilla Thunderbird
  • Evolution/Groupwise
  • Sylpheed/Claws-mail
  • Apple Mail

Configuring Apache OpenOffice to Use an Email Client on Solaris and Linux

You need to specify the email client you want to use.

To Specify the Email Client for the Solaris and Linux Platforms

  1. In Apache OpenOffice Writer, choose Tools → Options → Internet → E-mail
  2. Click the ellipsis ( … ) button next to the E-mail program box.
  3. Locate the email client you want to use and click the  Open  button.

Configuring Apache OpenOffice to Use an Email Client on Windows

You do not need to configure Apache OpenOffice to use an email client on Windows. Apache OpenOffice automatically uses the default email client, if the client uses the Messaging Application Program Interface (MAPI). See this Mozilla article for information about how to change the default email client per user under Windows.

Documentation note.png Apache OpenOffice uses the senddoc.exe program in the program directory of the Apache OpenOffice installation to access the MAPI email client.
