Aim of this document

  • The goal of this document is to make an inventory of all the weak points concerning the chart module. It also try to make an inventory of all the wishes formed by our users in IZ or in our lists.
  • This document try to be as exhaustive as possible and take into account most of the issues created in IZ. This means that it will list P1 needs but also the others.
  • Ideal would be to sort the needs by priorities, but those needs are really different depending the users contexts.

Quick overview of the Chart module

The « Chart » module allow to create diagrams in each OpenOffice.org module (Writer, Calc, Impress, Draw). But it is most often used in Calc. This module will be entirely redesigned and redevelop for the 3.0 release and this document is aimed to help developers to be aware of our users needs. The Chart module depends on the OpenOffice.org Graphics project and you'll find this project here: http://graphics.openoffice.org/ http://graphics.openoffice.org/chart/chart.html


Testing the new Chart module

Development of the new Chart module has already begin. The cws name is “chart2mst3”. A release is available giving the possibility to test what is implemented for now. Look for current downloads on the chart website: http://graphics.openoffice.org/chart/chart.html WARNING: please be aware that this release may conflict with another OpenOffice.org version installed on your computer.

  • Exist in Excel (issue keywords = ms_interoperability)
  • Exist in Gnumeric


Specifications

The specification document details a functionality that will be implemented. Generally those specs are written by developers once they have decided to develop it, but it's also possible to propose specs to help developers in their work.
