Abstract

Some AutoCorrect options under Tools - AutoCorrect Options - Options are language dependant.
Either they are specific to one language like the insertion of a space before some punctuation marks in French (See: Non Breaking Spaces Before Punctuation In French (espaces insécables)) or the correction they execute differs depending of the current language like the formatting of ordinal numbers (See: Localized AutoCorrection of Ordinal Numbers (1st 2nd)) or the use of custom quotes.

Therefore those options have to be grouped into one tabpage which contents varies depending of the current language.

Detailed Specification

The implementation under Tools - AutoCorrect Options consist in:

  • a new tabpage named "Localized Options" (target OOo 3.3)
  • the language context-sensitiveness of this tabpage (target OOo 3.x)

Localized Options tabpage (OOo 3.3)

A new tab page ("Tools - AutoCorrect Options - Localized Options") was needed to collect all AutoCorrect options which are language sensitive. Those Options are:

This tab page (1) contains:

  • A TableViewListBox (2) which is the same control as existing on the "Options" tab page.
This list contains the 2 list box groups:
    • "Add non breaking space before specific punctuation marks in French text"
    • "Format ordinal numbers suffixes"
Those options are always visible in the listwhatever which language is set.
  • Two control groups (3 and 4) which have the same content as the tab page formerly known as "Custom Quotes". Their controls layout is now vertical.
    • Note: the control "Double quotes - Replace" must be checked by default (see: issue 108361)

Other UI changes

The former option "Replace 1/2... with ½..." located under "Tools - AutoCorrect Options - Options" has been removed and its entries added to the "Replace" tabpage.

Those entries are:

  • 1/2 replaced with ½
  • 1/4 replaced with ¼
  • 3/4 replaced with ¾

Dynamic Localized Options tabpage (OOo 3.x)

The final goal of this specification is to make the AutoCorrect Options dialog - and especially the "Localized Options" tab page - context-dependant (5.3.1) and language-sensitive (5.3.2) (see issue 42065).

Context-dependency and default language

  • Dependency for new documents: the Default Document Language
Rule: The default language depends on "Tools - Options - Language Settings - Languages - Default languages for documents".
    • Example 1: Settings under "Tools - Options - Language Settings - Languages":
      • "User interface language": set to language "A"
      • "Local setting": set to language "B"
      • "Default language for documents": set to language "C"
-> the AutoCorrect Options language will be "C" (same as "Default language for documents")
  • Dependency for exiting documents and while typing: the character Language
    • Example 2: same settings as in the above example but the language set at the cursor position when opening the document is language "D".
-> the AutoCorrect Options language will be "D" (same as the character language)
    • Example 3: same settings as in the above example but the user switches the language under "Format - Character - Font - Language" to language "D".
-> the AutoCorrect Options language will be "D" (same as the character language).
    • Example 4: same settings as in the above example but the user switches the keyboard layout to language "D".
-> the AutoCorrect Options language will be "D" (same as the character language).

Language-sensitiveness of "Localized Options"

The "Language:" list box displays the current language as defined above. Depending on the language shown in the list box, the controls on the tab page will adapt their content to the options needed for this language.

  • The TableViewCheckBox will be populated differently depending on the current language.
    Examples:
    • For English: only "Format ordinal numbers suffixes"(**) will display
    • For French: both "Format ordinal numbers suffixes"(**) and "Add non breaking space before specific punctuation marks"***
(***Notice that label has lost its reference to "in French text" because the context results of the current language).
  • The defaults settings of the "Single Quotes" and "Double Quotes" reflect the default of the current language only:
    Examples:
    • For English: the double quotes will be U+201C (“) and U+201D (”).
    • For French: the double quotes will be U+00AB («) and U+00BB (»).

(**See the "Localized (containing local examples) UI string?" problem on the discussion page).

Accessibility

Accessibility is the responsibility of the I-Team, beginning with UX, DEV and QA, to ensure that the following requirements are fulfilled:

  1. Is the feature fully keyboard accessible?
(Ex: "I can go everywhere and use every function using the keyboard only"

    Yes.
  2. Have I specified visual alternatives for the case that the specified feature includes audio as output?
    Doesn't apply.
  3. Are text alternatives for all icons and graphics available?
    Doesn't apply.
  4. Don't provide important information in colors alone
(Ex: marking important information hard coded in red)

    Doesn't apply.
  5. Does the specified feature respect system settings for font, size, and color for all windows and user interface elements?
    Doesn't apply.
  6. Have I ensured that flash rates do not exceed 2 hertz for blinking text, objects, or other elements? In any case, try to avoid flashing UI elements
    Doesn't apply.
  7. Ensure that assistive technology (AT) (like ZoomText or Orca) is able to read everything.
