Great idea to update the current project pages.
What do you think of discussing your thoughts on dev@website.OOo?
My draft of a possible new Art project page aims in nearly the same direction, butis even more graphically based (like the main homepage). I doubt if this might fit for pure (or nealy pure) developer related projects, but for users and non-coding contributors a starting point with just a few well distinct buttons might be more attractive than sparing one more additional click IMHO.
(Even more if the page gains in visual impression).
As already discussed on dev@website.OOo there might be more graphical elements on a project's starting page.
