I could not reproduce this with OOo 2.4-dev and MS Office XP on W2k. Please check again this issue. If the problem persists, please add a more comprehensive description including OOo version and MS Office version.

MS Word cannot read an Oo Write saved *.doc format file that contains a period in the filename.
