I used to be a technical author up until 2003 when I had to take a career break to care for a loved one. I am now here to update my skills so I can get back in the job market but also to put something back into society. I have chosen to use and edit the Wiki, particularly the FAQs and How To pages to start with but I have progressed onto the Getting Started guide and user guides. I also get involved with updating the pdf documents, cleaning up anything on the API side of things and I am helping out with the Base tutorials and video tutorials.
I've used OpenOffice now for 6 months. My previous technical knowledge included banking and telecoms software, retail software; bespoke rental & international removal system software and giving training workshops in Microsoft Office to a variety of users, mainly in the MS Outlook, MS Word and Powerpoint programs.
I'm also interested in the following:
- Making documentation interact more with social media
- eLearning and;
- Learning more about wikis.
Aside from software, I'm interested in sport, film, art, science & technology - mostly model engineering as I grew up in that environment with a parent that was very successful and well known, in the UK, in that area.
If you wish to contact me, you can email me at: Claire Wood. For anyone who is interested, I am also on Twitter to keep up with information about technical communication and there is a list for #openoffice too. Feel free to join in the conversations!
