Apple has agreed to donate 2 tickets for 2 developers to go to the WWDC2008. However we need to find funding for travel and hotel for the 2 developers to go.
In previous years the WWDC has proved to be very helpful in allowing the Mac port to surge forward. It is hoped that with some extra help from the Apple developers this June, we will be able to make OpenOffice.org an even better application on Mac OS X (and maybe even the other platforms too).

Two community members of the Mac port with a track record of contributing, are able to attend, iff their expenses are paid.

Michael Sicotte estimates that flight and hotel will cost around USD$1250 to $1700 (approx €812 to €1104) depending on how soon it is booked.
Eric Bachard estimates the cost for the flight and hotel to be €2200
This brings a total of around €3100 for both developers to go.

There is a possibility that Eric and Michael will be happy to share a hotel room so that costs are reduced.

Is the Community Council willing to fund these two developers to go to the WWDC 2008?

== Prague public transport ==

The [http://www.dpp.cz/index.php?q=en Prague public transport system] is fully automated - you don't need to speak to anybody. The bus drivers, usually understand very little English, but definitely are not hostile to foreigners and try to understand.

You buy a 26 Kc (CZK) ticket at the airport, in a coin-slot ticket vending machine. If you don't have any coins, it should be possible to buy it at the information desk at the airport. If that doesn't work, you can buy it in a bus, when entering through the front door. It'll cost you a little bit more (30 Kc). The ticket is then valid for one hour, and for that time you can use any means of public transport available, no need to get transfer tickets or anything like that. You can be checked for the validity of the ticket during the journey by the public transport officers.

Once you have a ticket, you can enter or exit the bus by any door. The bus stops at every stop, no signaling to the driver is needed.
After getting on the bus, you need to mark the ticket in a ticket marking machine - one of several very noticeable yellow boxes with a
green arrow light in every bus.

If traveling by underground first, you mark the ticket at the entrance to the station.

* Open a new word processing document.

Follow these steps:

*Open a new word processing document
* From the pull down menus, select: Insert -> Header -> Standard.
* Click inside the new header block.
* From the pull down menus, select: Insert -> Graphics -> From File.
* Navigate to the desired logo, then click Open.

If the graphic does not appear on every page, there are two possible problems. The page style in use could have the wrong header settings. To check the settings:

* From the pull down menus, select: Format -> Page.
* Click on the 'Header' tab.
* Check to see that the box next to "Same content left/right" is clicked. If it is not, you will get logos only on odd or even pages, but not both.

If the graphic appears on one or more pages, then stops appearing, the cause is likely to be a different page style that is applied on the page where the logo ceases to appear. Look below the document, just to the right of where the page number information appears. The name that appears is the page style name. If the style name is different, the document has been broken into sections. To change this:

* Place your text cursor into the page that has the wrong style
* From the pull down menus, select: Format -> Stylist.
* Click on the Page style icon (fourth one from the left).
* Double-click on the desired Page style name (the one that properly displays your header/logo). You may close the Stylist now, if desired.

=== How do I perform a word count of my document? ===
Open the file, then select: File -> Properties.
Click on the "Statistics" tab. The word count (and other statistics) will appear in the dialog.

You can also use "Tools" drop down menu and choose "Word Count". In this dialog, you will find the count of words and characters of the selection and the whole document.

Select View -> Nonprinting Characters from the pull
down menus (so that the choice is checked). This will allow you to see the special control character that is pushing the page over to another sheet. Locate that character and delete it (after making a backup of your file). Be sure to turn these options off before printing. (If left 'on' you will be prompted for whether you want to print them or not). In '''rare''' cases, playing around with the Insert -> Manual Break feature using a change of page style can cause 'ghost' pages. These are pages that have no apparent content, no hidden characters, and cannot hold a text cursor. In the case tested, these 'ghost' pages were removed by the following procedure:

* From the pulldown menus, select View -> Online Layout
* Scroll through your document. The 'ghost' pages should not appear.
* Select View -> Online Layout again (this deselects the choice). The 'ghost' pages should not return.

=== How do I insert a variable for the current date into the footer of my document? ===
Follow these steps:

# Insert a footer into your document.(if you don't already have one) by selecting: Insert->Footer ->Standard.
# With the cursor in the footer area, select: Insert -> Fields -> Other.
# In the dialog that appears, be sure that the DocInformation tab is selected (click to select).
# If you want the date to update each time the document is modified, select Modified in the Type list. Other choices are Last Printed, Created, etc.
# In the Select list, click Date.
# In the Format list, click on the format desired.
# Make sure that the check box next to 'Fixed content' is '''not''' checked.
# Click Insert.
# Click Close.

You should now see the current date. If you see the name of the date field, select: View -> Fields (to turn off the check mark next to this choice). If you see nothing, it may be because you have not yet saved your document for the first time.

=== What is a Master Document? ===
A Master Document is one that is used as a "holder" for smaller documents. You can write the "front matter" in the master document and then add files which are, each, a separate part of the entire document.

You can edit the front matter, but not the inserted documents as they are other files. It is best if both the Master Document and the files are based on the same template file.

Some version management functions become unavailable when you create an index (such as Table of Contents) within your document. Menu choices that will no longer appear include:

* Edit->Changes->Merge Document.
* Edit->Compare Document. In addition, the 'Compare' button in the 'Versions' dialog (accessed using File -> Versions) becomes gray (unusable) when the document contains an index.

=== How do I make page numbers alternate? (eg. even page numbers on the top-left, odd page numbers on the top-right). ===
There are two ways to do this.

First method, using one page style only:

# From the main menu bar, select Format -> Page (or right-click anywhere on the page and choose Page).
# On the Page Style dialog, go to the Page tab.
# In the Layout Settings section, set Page layout to 'Mirrored'.
# On the Header tab, select the 'Header on' checkbox and deselect the 'Same content left/right' checkbox.

Now you can insert page numbers in the headers. On a left-hand (even-numbered) page, align the number to the left. On a right-hand (off-numbered) page, align the number to the right.

Second method, using two page styles:

# Open the Styles and Formatting window (F11).
# Select the Page Styles icon.
# Right-click on the 'Right Page' style to open the Page Style dialog.
# On the Organizer tab, set 'Next Style' to 'Left Page' (you'll have to create Left Page first if it does not exist).
# On the Page tab, set 'Page layout' to 'Only left'.
# On the Header tab, select the 'Header on' checkbox. The 'Same content left/right' checkbox is not available. Click OK to save.
# Back in the Styles and Formatting window, right-click on 'Left Page' to open the Page Style dialog.
# On the Organizer tab, set 'Next Style' to 'Right Page'.
# On the Page tab, set 'Page layout' to 'Only right'.
# On the Header tab, select the 'Header on' checkbox. The 'Same content left/right' checkbox is not available. Click OK to save.

This sets up the pages to alternate styles automatically. Now you can insert page numbers in the header as usual.

== Policy ==

Since some time [[EIS]] now has a status overview about [[tinderbox]] builds on [[CWS | ChildWorkspaces]].
The [[tinderbox]] status messages are available on the main CWS overview pages.

Critical is when the color in those status messages is red for one of the platforms, because this indicates that the build broke on that platform.

<pre>

Here's a short list what can be done to get more information about such tinderbox build breakers:

# Go to the CWS Overview page in EIS and look at the [[tinderbox]] status <br/> The only thing of interest is when the color is red somewhere, which indicates that the build broke on that platform.
# On that EIS page there is a link below the headline "Tinderbox" with a text like "<cwsname> is open as of <date>". Click on that link.
# You are now at the [[tinderbox]] overview page for that [[CWS | ChildWorkspace]]. There is a table with build dates as rows and platform as columns.
# If there have been build breakers or if the build output contained warnings there will be a colored cell at that build-date/platform combination. Inside that cell there is the letter "L" with a Link. Click on that link.
#* If you don't see the cell you're looking for, try to increase the displayed timeframe (links right above the legend) and start over with the above step.
# A popup box is now opening containing the links "View Summary Log" and "View full Log". Usually the Summary log will be enough (and actually the easiest way) to tell where the problem is.

The "Summary Log" (or brief log) is just an excerpt of the buildlog that only includes lines that look like an error to the logparser and some surrounding lines. In case the context of the summary log is not enough, you can choose the full log (the brief log offers a link to the full log and vice versa).

If you are the owner of the [[CWS]] and can't fix the problem yourself (eg. because it is system specific and you do not have acesss to that platform) an alternative is to seek help from porters of that platform. You can use either use the dev@porting.openoffice.org mailinglist or ask around on IRC ( server: irc.freenode.net channel: #dev.openoffice.org ) - some OpenOffice.org porters are usually around on that IRC channel.

[[tinderbox]] will automatically put the [[CWS]] back into it's queue of to be build things when it detects that there have been CVS commits on a ChildWorkspace. Thus a CVS commit (which you'd surely would have to do anyway when you fixed something) effectively forces a new build.

[[buildbot | buildbots]] now also send their results to [[tinderbox]]. With this feature becoming available you can now request a new build on a [[buildbot]] to have the [[tinderbox]] status being updated.

== QA Guidelines ==

If the [[tinderbox]] status is red first check if there is a comment from Development why it might be ignored, eg. the problem was already on the [[MWS | Masterworkspace]]

If there is no DEV comment write a comment to development to please have a look at [[tinderbox]] into the [[CWS]] and set state back to new.

Exception: if there is a global outage with anoncvs or similar infrastructure problem announced and you are aware of that tinderbox status can be ignored. Please provide a short comment in the [[CWS]] about the outage in this case before nomination or approval.

If you get the [[CWS]] back from development with a comment that it´s a false positive go on and approve or nominate the [[CWS]].
If you get the [[CWS]] back from development with a fix and a comment that that fix did build OK on [[buildbot]] go on and approve or nominate the [[CWS]].
If you get the [[CWS]] back from development without such comment [[tinderbox]] status should now no longer be red or else we have a fixed but failed issue.

== Development Guidelines ==

If the [[tinderbox]] status is red and you believe that your [[CWS]] should be in a buildable state have a look at the buildlog in [[tinderbox]]. Instructions for how to find and analyse the buildlog and handle the red status can be found via the help bubble in EIS beneath the tinderbox headline. Prior to looking at the buildlog you might want to check if there may be a problem inherited from the current milestone your [[CWS]] is based on. Use the [[EIS]] Menu "Masterworkspace / Tinderbox status" to check [[tinderbox]] status of milestones. Note that the treeview shown there only shows the last recent milestones for older milestones you can assume that the milestone build was OK by now.

If it´s a real build breaker try to fix problem or try to find assistance for fixing problem.
After you did commit your fix to CVS [[tinderbox]] will automatically requeue the [[CWS]] for a new test build.
You can also start a build on [[buildbot]] immediately after fixing for proving that the build is now OK.

If you find out that it´s a false positive (see below) or that the build breaker is already on the [[MWS | MasterWorkspace]] write a comment into the CWS and send it back to QA.

The policy allows the Developer to just write a comment for the [[CWS]] in [[EIS]] that [[tinderbox]] red status can be ignored because his/her analysis of the [[tinderbox]] log file reveled <whatever_problem_there_was_unrelated_to_code_change> if this is the case.

Developer can contact the [[tinderbox]] maintainer to requeue a build for that [[CWS]] the maintainer can be found on top of the buildlog page or just start a build on [[buildbot]] to have an update of the [[tinderbox]] status in [[EIS]].

=== False positives (or when it is OK to ignore a red status) ===
A red status can sometimes also have other causes than actual bugs it's possible that there is a build breaker because of missing modules, something being tagged wrong on anoncvs etc.

In general, these are the circumstances that can cause an invalid result:
* a new module was added to the cws
*: since the new module is not included in the module list, it is not checked out from cvs and the build will most likely fail with:<br/><pre>Fetching dependencies for module <new module> from solver... failed...</pre>
* anoncvs is out of date or not reachable
*: obvious failure when anoncvs is not reachable, slightly more difficult to detect when it is out-of date<br/>The status page will show commits in the column next to the dates. When the build started shortly after the last commit (or when your last changes are not listed at all), anoncvs might not be up-to-date. Carefully check the logs whether ther breaker occurs in an area you touched with that last commit
* problems with the buildslave itself
*: while unfortunate, the buildslaves might experience hardware problems or just run out of diskspace or similar. Please notify the TinderAdmin (listed on top of the buildlog) of the buildslave in that case.
* failed to create localedata
*: If you see the following error (not necessarily with the same file, but while creating localedata), and you didn't touch anything in that area, then it is not your fault. This error is rarely seen, and is not reproducible at all. Blame it to the solar wind.<br/><pre>dmake: Error code 132, while making ´../../../unxmacxp.pro/misc/localedata_en_NA.cxx´</pre>

All those false errors should be fairly easy to detect by looking at the summary log of a build. If in doubt or when you suspect a parallel build problem or similar, feel free to contact the TinderAdmin of the buildslave.

=== Common Errors ===
* There is a compiler specific problem
* A system header file is not found where expected on different platform
* configure.in or setsoenv.in was updated, but configure was not regenerated
*: when configure is not updated, the build might fail right at the beginning, or if it introduces new environment variables, might not yield the expected result. Please always regenerate configure in your cws (just run autoconf for this)

=== What to do if you need immediate results ===
If you can't wait until your cws is rescheduled by the tinderbox, you can use buildbot to start a build.
The [[buildbot]] will send the results to [[tinderbox]] when the build is complete.
