{{User Experience Community}}

My name is [http://www.jasononeil.com.au Jason O'Neil]. I'm a 21 year old, live in [http://www.flickr.com/search/show/?q=perth Perth], [http://www.flickr.com/search/show/?q=australia Australia]. Studied Multimedia Design at [http://curtin.edu.au Curtin University], which covered designing everything from graphics to websites to videos to education materials to applications. I have an interest in the usability of open office, have been using it for years and wouldn't mind sharing my thoughts on possible changes to the user interface.

Some of the thinking that has most influenced my design:
* [http://www.amazon.com/Think-Common-Sense-Approach-Usability/dp/0789723107 Don't Make Me Think!], a fantastic book by [http://www.sensible.com/ Steve Krugg].
* The [http://alistapart.com/ A List Apart] Community
* [http://www.jnd.org/ Donald Norman], Particularly these books:
** [http://www.amazon.com/Design-Everyday-Things-Donald-Norman/dp/0385267746 The Design of Everyday Things]
** [http://www.amazon.com/Emotional-Design-Love-Everyday-Things/dp/0465051367/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_k2a_1_txt?pf_rd_p=304485601&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-2&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=0385267746&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1AVCKD99CTSQE5C4AG8N Emotional Design: Why People Love or Hate Everyday Objects]
* [http://sethgodin.typepad.com/ Seth Godin], possibly the only marketer that I actually like.
* Probably controversial to post on the Open Office wiki, but Jensen Harris and [http://blogs.msdn.com/jensenh/archive/2008/03/12/the-story-of-the-ribbon.aspx The Story of the Ribbon] documents how the Microsoft team ended up where they did with Office 2007.
* The [http://kde.org KDE] project. I got angry at their radical changes with 4.0, but now I see it as incredible foresight.
* Almost anything by [http://labs.google.com google]. I actually ''enjoy'' using their products.

Hopefully I'll find time, inspiration, and acceptance to benefit this project, and it's millions of users :)
